Stone Soul Studio

Alison Small started her formal education at The School of Visual Arts in New York City, where she explored many facets of Fine Arts, Graphic Design and Illustration. She then continued her studies at the Center of the Arts at Villa Maria in Perugia, Italy, where she was first introduced to the art of stone sculpting. Feeling an instant connection with the stone, Alison returned to Palm Beach, Fla. to study at the Armory Art Center and the Alicia Deya art studio. As her love for stone carving grew, she found herself spending summers out in Marble, Co. studying with The Marble Institute of Colorado at Marble/marble. Having the need to be closer to Marble, Co. and other stone carvers, Alison moved to Boulder, Co. where her quest for movement and fluidity in stone is an on going growth process. For the past year, Alison has spent much of her time sculpting in Italy where she was inspired by the marble of Carrara and the traditions of the master stone sculptors that have carved there for hundreds of years before. In October 2001 Stone Soul Studio, of which Alison is a co-founder, will be sponsoring an all-stone exhibition in Denver, Colorado. Her hopes are to educate the public an all facets of stone sculpting.
