Greetings Friends
and Visitors,
We are already more than half way
through the year sailing to the finish. So
many changes have occurred already, it may turn out to be the most
transformational year ever.
During my annual hunt in
Puerto Vallarta
, for an apartment to spend the winter in, I stumbled upon an interesting house
instead. Now winter South of the Border will be even better. I hope to be able
to more easily coordinate studio opportunities and future exhibitions now that
Casa Luna Azul will be
a home base.
On a sadder note, our good friend and fellow sculptor
Roger Seal passed away leaving a void in our community and the universe.
He was a uniquely genuine and unassuming person who was always open to
people and to helping in whatever way he could. His playful nature and goodness
will be missed. I know I am not alone in feeling sad. In Marble Colorado, during
the second session of the Marble/marble, the staff created a garden for Roger,
where his spirit resides. It was a wonderful experience to stand beneath the
pine trees, by the
Crystal
River
in place Roger loved and celebrate knowing him.
On a happy note, Alison Small, my long time friend and
studio mate married Larry Fiedler. Their
wedding was in
Estes Park
,
Colorado
. As a wedding gift, he bought Alison
a seven and one-half horsepower 80 gal. air compressor.
Now that’s what I call love!
Alison and I both had pieces included in the
Boulder
Regional
Cancer
Center
’s collection. The Tebo family was
instrumental in building the facility with countless other donations including a
varied collection of exquisite artwork throughout the beautiful campus. If art
can heal, then a facility that uses the power of art in this way is a truly
progressively thinking organization. We are honored to be included.
I have been invited to participate in the 2007 Clach
Symposium this September. The
symposium is at Castle Kelburn in Fairlie Ayrshire,
Scotland
near
Glasgow
. I’ll be carving for ten days on
the grounds of the 13th century castle.
I will post photos afterwards.
Some questions we have been asked lately: Will Alison
and I be organizing another Stone
Sculpture show in
Colorado
? Possibly in 2008. Please email us if this is of interest to you.
It is a lot of work and requires 100 % cooperation and enthusiasm. Stonsoul2@msn.com
Will there be a Mexican Carving Adventure in 2008? If enough people are
interested, I would love to plan another one.
It’s great fun in a creative, tropical space. If you get a group
together, I can get you a special rate. Individuals and/or groups, please email
me at stonsoul2@msn.com Be sure to
mention your ideal month of preference.
For all of
you who create and appreciate, keep it up. Art keeps us from becoming single
minded. And remember
if you
create because it is your destiny to do so, don’t get discouraged by
the economics of art. It is true that our society correlates value with dollars,
but it simply isn’t an accurate measure of talent or lack thereof.
What you create will last a lifetime, maybe more.
It is a history of feeling, of vision and of passion.
